8th Of December-Gladys Knight & The Pips, Do You Hear What I Hear?

Gladys Knight & The Pips
Do You Hear I What I Hear?

Let us not forget where the whole celebration of Christmas from; The birth of little Baby Jesus. And many artists aim to remind their listeners the 'true meaning' of Christmas, including the wonderful Gladys Knight & The Pips.

Do You Hear What I Hear? was originally written as a plea for peace during the Cuban Missile Crisis in October 1962 and like many famous Christmas songs has been covered countless times. Gladys brings her own styling in the form of her smooth sensual voice. She starts out in a whisper and a little husky, before bursting into her powerful vocals. The Pips provide the backing throughout, and together they detail the birth of Jesus being relayed to higher upon higher authority. It reaches the King as Gladys’ reaches her peak, with her voice quivering in emotion. There is a certain 70s feel about the backing track, especially the R&B guitar interjections, which is very enjoyable. It’s almost upsetting then to remember that this was sampled by JLS on their hit DoYou Feel What I Feel? The original is much more meaningful...
