11th Of December-Beach Boys, Little Saint Nick

Beach Boys
Little Saint Nick

Think of the Beach Boys and you’ll probably think of the classic summer scene; Barbeques, sun and Surfin’ USA. So who decided that they should release a Christmas song (Let alone a festive album) must have known they were taking a risk. Admittedly the risk was somewhat a little subdued with the Beach Boys rehashing an old hit into a festive one; in this case Little Deuce Coupe being changed to Little Saint Nick (Literally the same!).

But they pulled it off, and well at that. It’s a unique Christmas track with a very distinct, if not cliché, Beach Boys feel about it. The lead singer is surrounded by the other ‘boys’ “Ooohing” and “Ahhing”  their way through the song, pausing only to remind listeners that “Christmas Comes This Time Each Year” (A little redundant don’t you think?). It’s as enjoyable as Good Vibrations, especially the repeated “Run Run Reindeer” section. It’s just sad that it’s not longer to be honest. 1960s USA rolled into a Christmas song…

“It's The Little Saint Nick (Little Saint Nick)”
