Cliff Richard
Mistletoe and Wine
Some people are ‘Christmas People’; they love wrapping
presents, pulling crackers and writing blogs on festive music (Ok, I’m a
Christmas Lover!). Equally so, some artists are Christmas ones, and none more
so than Sir Cliff Richard. Each year he reappears/is wheeled out with his usual
Christmas classics.
Mistletoe and Wine
is possibly Cliff’s 'most classic', if not cheesy, Christmas hit. Released in
1988, it was Cliff’s 99th single becoming his 12th UK
Number One. Adapted from a musical called Scraps,
Mistletoe and Wine has a certain
carol feel about it. Yet it’s not as ‘Christian’ as Millennium Prayer, with Cliff instead throwing anything and everything remotely festive
at it with mentions of Snow, Santa, Gifts and Trees. It is a typical Richard's song; with an insanely catchy chorus and positive feel good message. It fact, its so insanely catchy/ingrained in our collective minds, that it becomes hard to not read the phrase “Christmas
Time/Mistletoe and Wine” in tune (Or perhaps bursting into full song).
Admittedly it’s not everyone’s favourite festive track; with Mistletoe and Wine recently being banned from all Costa Coffee shops over the Christmas period, after they surveyed their
customers most loathed tracks (apparently). But if you're in need of a classic cheesy Christmas
sing-a-long this festive period then look no further than Mr Richards here!
