Burl Ives
Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer.
“But do you recall/The
most famous reindeer of all?”. Everyone knows the story of Rudolph the Red
Nosed Reindeer (So much so you probably read that in a kind of tuneful, half
sung way!). Mini summary: Its the story of a reindeer with a special power who is mocked and then
loved by his fellow reindeer folk.
The original story was adapted from a short story in 1939 written by Johnny Marks. And its proved to be so popular that nearly everyone has covered this song at some point in their career; from Bing Crosby and the Jackson 5, to Ringo Star, Alvin and the Chipmunks and even Destiny’s Child.

This version is by Burl Ives, who for many will always be the
voice of Disney’s Ugly Bug Ball. This
version is very simple; there are no gimmicks or flashy sounds, just Burl’s
vocals, some sleigh bells and the odd intrusion from a small choir. The song
opens with a list of all 8 reindeers, which if you're ever stuck in a Pub Quiz is probably the best way to remember
them all (That, or the running section of Arnie Schwarzenegger’s Jingle All The Way!). It’s a basic, but still enjoyable song that
will ultimately stay stuck in your head for a large part of the festive
season..!
