Fun.
Sleigh Ride
Written during a heat wave in 1946, Sleigh Ride is a Christmas classic that has been covered by someone
different nearly every single year. Seriously, the list is almost endless and
will no doubt continue to grow year upon year. But everyone likes some Fun at Christmas,
so this cover was a match made in heaven.
Released as part of a compilation album in 2012 called Holidays Rule, Fun. bring their own
unique spin on this classic. It’s a fantastic mix of modern and traditional,
with gliding strings and trumpets intertwining with synths and electronically
reverbed vocals. The zapping sounds half way through are different but exciting
and add something new to it. The New York indie band is led by singer Nate
Reuss who has a superbly unique voice as he effortlessly slides through the
track. There’s certain bounciness in his voice, creating a fun (Sorry) and
enjoyable atmosphere. Lyrically, Sleigh Ride
is a winner, but you don’t need someone to tell you that; it’s a classic
for a reason. Therefore it’s nice to be able to enjoy this festive favourite
with new gusto and slant.
